What is more current and concerning to our future generation than the environment. This unit explores several issues in the Spanish speaking world and how the planet is connected and the impact is felt all around. This unit also gives the students an opportunity to explore solutions and connect with other communities to see up closer the impact of global issues regarding the environment.
Thematic Unit: Global Challenges - The Environment
This unit is the third unit of the year and I really find this to be the unit that brings my students together because it connects them to their interest and the global society in a way that no other does. In the previous unit we talk and explore identity with in the community, roles with in, the access to resources and go over some factors that influence the life of the members of a community. In global challenges we start to see more how we are connected to a larger group with is the world and how this environmental challenges impact us all. As a Spanish teacher I consider myself very fortunate because my pool of information is so rich that I don't really struggle to find authentic resources.
This PBLL unit is very interesting, and one of my favorites. Students explore environmental issues in different countries, allowing them to make cultural connections, to compare global environmental challenges across cultures and to offer possible solutions to these challenges using the target language. Students communicate and advocate for a healthier planet from their own perspective, using their own reasoning and the target language.
